Stronger support for teachers. More opportunities for music makers.

Music teachers help students discover their voices, develop skills, and find belonging through music. Teachers deserve meaningful support as they do that work.

Help music teachers access the mentoring they need.

A music educator may be navigating a first teaching position, building a program, managing a studio, or facing a challenge that general professional development doesn’t fully address. An experienced mentor can offer a place to reflect, explore options, and develop practical next steps.

The Music Teacher Guild Mentoring Access Fund helps make that support available when cost is a barrier.

Who your gift helps

The fund is designed to support music educators with limited access to affordable, relevant mentoring, including:

  • New and early-career music teachers developing their teaching practice.

  • Educators navigating professional challenges or transitions.

  • Teachers in schools and districts with limited professional development funding.

  • Music educators who lack access to a mentor with relevant music teaching experience.

Schools and districts may also participate to help connect their teachers with mentoring support. MTG will establish eligibility criteria and select participants based on demonstrated need, program fit, and available funding.

What mentoring makes possible

Mentoring gives teachers space to work through the questions that matter in their own setting.

Depending on each educator’s goals, that work may include planning instruction, strengthening classroom or studio routines, navigating professional relationships, developing a music program, or building sustainable approaches to teaching.

Our aim is to help educators develop the skills, confidence, and connections to move forward with greater clarity—and bring that growth into their work with students.

What your contribution supports

Effective mentoring takes more than arranging a conversation. Your gift helps support the full program, including:

  • Mentor compensation: Supporting the time and expertise mentors bring to educators.

  • Program coordination: Organizing participation, mentor matching, scheduling, and ongoing support.

  • Related learning resources: Providing materials and learning opportunities that complement mentoring.

  • Access support: Reducing financial and participation barriers.

  • Evaluation: Gathering feedback and assessing progress to improve the program.

Contributions are pooled to provide fully or partially funded mentoring places as resources become available.

How the fund works

Supporters contribute. Individuals, organizations, and community partners help build the Mentoring Access Fund.

MTG identifies eligible participants. Music Teacher Guild administers the fund and selects educators or participating schools and districts using established criteria.

Educators receive mentoring support. Available funding helps cover all or part of the cost of participation.

MTG learns and reports back. We will share updates on participation, the support delivered, and lessons from the program while respecting educators’ privacy.

Help make mentoring more accessible

A teacher’s access to professional support should not depend solely on the resources available in their school, district, or studio.

Your contribution helps Music Teacher Guild expand access to mentoring and strengthen the support available to music educators.
