Eileen Guevara holds a Master of Music in Oboe Performance from the University of New Mexico, combined with 16 years of elementary music teaching experience. Her time spent working in Title I public schools, a Spanish immersion program, and a private international school, has given her a deep appreciation for the great extent to which music represents, defines, and reflects community.

Trained in Orff-Schulwerk (I-III), and Kodály (I-II), Eileen received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. Mom to two young boys, she is always ready with plans A, B, and C. She is passionate about strengths-based approaches, honoring neurodiversity, and doing what works.

  • My philosophy is that everyone has innate talents and gifts, and everyone is a musician. The earlier someone learns and practices, the easier it is to find satisfying musical experiences; but I do truly believe that someone who wants to learn and improve, will do so. I think we are at a pivotal time where music education is expanding and adapting to be more inclusive of more cultural traditions and needs; and that there is still so much to be done in making quality music making experiences accessible.

As far as details, I believe in movement experiences first, followed by making concepts conscious, and finally improvising. I resonate most with Orff, but I incorporated a little bit of a lot of curricula. One of my favorite tools for this was the Purposeful Pathways series, which blends Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, and more.
