Vanisha Evans Music Teacher Guild Headshot

Unique, unicorn talents with over twenty plus years of work experience in arts administration, nonprofit management, and music education. My short and long term business start-up assistance and valuable expertise have proven to be an asset to any organization seeking guidance for streamlined operational procedures. I have developed successful, sustainable programs in past positions based on their needs, budget and desires. I am highly organized with keen attention to details. I work well in a supportive, collaborative environment. I am a team player and value the input of others to shape decisions. My fun and engaging music lessons make an impressionable impact on student learners, and activates curiosity. I am experienced at encouraging students to seek their passion by inspiring their areas of interests.

A lover of music from Mozart to Motown, I began teaching myself how to play my family’s piano and clarinet around the 4th grade. I participated in all my public school music programs and eventually earned a music scholarship to attend college despite never having private lessons or formal training. I perform regularly with my group, 2Ps in a Band, which helps me stay connected and teach effectively to my fellow aspiring musicians.

I am originally from Seaside, California and specialize in neo-soul music, especially Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. I perform a wide-range of music as a singer, pianist and clarinetist. I have performed as a vocalist the funk band, The OhGeez, and as an improv pianist and vocalist at the legendary Mercury Cafe in Denver, Colorado. I have also performed as a clarinetist with the Rome Festival Orchestra and Opera and was one of twelve musicians from around the world selected to perform for the 2006 Claremont Clarinet Festival.

My career services students, leadership, and empowerment, and has included teaching music in public schools, managing youth orchestras, and establishing a non-profit youth band for aspiring young musicians.

  • My teaching philosophy is broken into three main ideas in music with an end goal of having all students learn musicianship through singing and playing their instrument. The first part uses montessori-inspired, individualized instruction that follows the student where they are in their musicianship. The second part incorporates a kodály approach using solfege, ear-training and sight-reading to understand the elements of sound in music. The final part is to inspire a passion for music so students will play and practice their music.

  • I have created teacher training materials and provided curriculum development for two past organizations during a time critical for providing quality, intentional based music education for young children and their families. The content was customized based on the needs and interests of the children, as well as the skill level of the teachers being trained to teach the music class. I composed original music and also wrote new lyrics for existing public domain children’s songs to meet the curriculum needs and overall lesson objective.
